READING CORPS AT A GLANCE / FOR MEMBERS
Michigan Education Corps (MEC) Reading Corps’ aims to help every Michigan child become reading proficient by the end of third grade—a goal that we can only reach with your help.
As an MEC Reading Corps Interventionist, you’ll help kindergarten – third grade students become better readers by using scripted intervention and assessment. These interventions focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency and comprehension. You will see each student on your caseload for 20 minutes a day, Monday through Friday until they reach their growth targets. Through ongoing training and coaching, we’ll prepare you to successfully meet each student’s needs.
MEC Reading Corps is an AmeriCorps program. MEC Reading Corps interventionists (members) commit to serve up to 1,200 hours following the school calendar. Full time interventionists typically serve at least 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday during typical school hours. Interventionists serving part time typically serve at least 27.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday during typical school hours.
