Be part of the solution
We partner with Michigan schools to host our MEC Math Corps tutors, referred to as interventionists, to enhance early math proficiency so students achieve algebra readiness by ninth grade.
About the program
You don't need to be a math expert to become an MEC Math Corps Interventionist! Our program provides ongoing training and support throughout the school year to ensure your success.
During the first week of your service term, you will learn about the MEC Math Corps program model and how to implement our scripted interventions.
Throughout your service term, you will be supported by an internal coach, a coaching specialist, and MEC program staff.
As an MEC Math Corps Interventionist, you’ll serve pairs of students in fourth to eighth grade to help them get on track with math and build their confidence in problem solving. To achieve this goal, MEC Math Corps interventionists provide scripted, evidence-based interventions. These interventions are designed to help students master foundational math skills like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and practice applying these skills to solve problems.
MEC Math Corps members (Interventionists) commit to serving up to 1,200 hours following the school calendar. Full time Interventionists serve in elementary schools, and typically serve at least 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday during the school day. Interventionists who serve part time serve in middle schools, and typically serve at least 21 hours per week, Tuesday-Thursday during the school day.
