About the READING INTERVENTION program
Michigan Education Corps (MEC) Reading Corps’ aims to help every Michigan child become reading proficient by the end of third grade—a goal that we can only reach with your help. We connect interventionists, or reading tutors, with elementary schools throughout Michigan to read proficiently.
As a designated MEC Reading Corps service site, you will have the opportunity to facilitate connections between AmeriCorps members and kindergarten to third-grade students. The Michigan Education Corps team provides training to Reading Corps Interventionists and Internal Coaches to ensure the successful implementation of the Reading Corps model. Internal coaches are required to attend training to learn about and practice and have the opportunity to receive SCECHs clock hours during August Reading Corps Institute.
MEC K-3 reading intervention program for elementary students provides evidence-based support to help young students improve their reading skills. Sessions include one-on-one scripted interventions for 15-20 students, focusing on phonics, fluency, and assessments.
