Michigan Education Corps members serve in schools and early learning centers across the state, from rural communities to large urban districts. Our members work side by side with educators to deliver evidence-based reading and math support to students who need it most.

Every placement is rooted in partnership with local schools and communities. Whether serving in a small-town or a busy-city school, members play an important role in helping students strengthen academic skills and build confidence in the classroom.

• Tutor students one-on-one or in small groups of no more than three depending on the program.
• Follow evidence-based, scripted interventions that are easy to learn and designed for consistency
• Build positive, encouraging relationships with students
• Track student progress with simple tools and guidance
• Be part of a supportive team of tutors, coaches, and school staff

Applying to AmeriCorps service with Michigan Education Corps is a straightforward process designed to help us get to know you and prepare you for success in your service role.

• Apply (approximately 15-30 minutes): Submit your application online
• Phone Interview (approximately 15-20 minutes): Complete a phone interview with an MEC Recruiter
• Virtual Interview (approximately 30-45 minutes): Complete an interview through Zoom with 2 MEC Staff. A school representative may also join the conversation.
• Onboarding (approximately 1-2 hours): Complete several pre-service onboarding steps before training.
• Training: (approximately 1-2 weeks): At the beginning of your service term, you'll complete training and become familiar with your service site and intervention model. This time counts toward your service term.
